Overview

AMPYR Australia is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trading Operations Analyst to join our Energy Markets team. This role is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious professional to build their career in the renewables sector at an exciting time in the energy transition, with a strong focus on battery storage asset development and operation across both utility-scale and distributed energy projects.

As a Trading Operations Analyst at AMPYR, you will play a central role in bridging asset operations, trading, and commercial performance. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position responsible for ensuring that our BESS fleet performs commercially and operationally to expectation – both before and after COD begins, while contributing to AMPYR’s mission of driving Australia’s clean energy transition. It is a varied role with duties across contract management, market monitoring and analysis, and asset operations. You will gain valuable experience in understanding deeply the interconnections between asset physical conditions and financial performance.

The role is based at AMPYR’s Sydney office, with flexible working arrangements available, subject to maintaining regular in-office collaboration.

Responsibilities

Asset & Contract Performance Management

  • Monitor day-to-day BESS operational and commercial performance, including cycling, degradation, health, and force majeure conditions.
  • Maintain performance monitoring dashboards and ensure accurate data inputs from SCADA, AEMO, and trading systems.
  • Manage live offtake agreements and maintain master asset/contract data parameters
  • Support weekly and monthly reporting cycles on trading performance, market outcomes, and financial KPIs

Trading Operations

  • Monitor spot market outcomes on a day-to-day basis and identify trends and changing market conditions to inform trading strategy
  • Prepare and facilitate weekly trading meetings with internal and external stakeholders to present asset performance, trading outcomes, market dynamics, and key risks.
  • Support ongoing review and refinement of trading strategies across autobidder and manual operations, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of trading risk assessment methodologies and internal governance frameworks.
  • Optimise asset availability with offtakers and partners given prevailing market conditions

Compliance

  • Work closely with our legal and compliance team to ensure our operations are compliant with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with internal risk framework and implement changes to risk reporting as needed
  • Own key datasets and ensure reliability of data sources supporting settlements, trading, and reporting.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Maths, Engineering, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, or any quantitative subject.

Professional Experience

  • 3-4 years’ experience in energy asset management, trading operations, or market analytics.
  • Experience in operating and trading systems of real-time energy assets, dispatching batteries, hydro or gas assets.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Intuitive understanding of NEM market operations, market participant bidding behaviour patterns, and spot market dynamics.
  • Highly commercially focussed
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple reporting cycles and stakeholder requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills. Able to produce clear, accurate reports aligned with contractual frameworks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, regulatory bodies and partners.
  • Good understanding of energy technologies, including solar, wind, hydro and energystorage solutions.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills required; familiarity with SQL, Python, and Power BI, or similar tools a bonus.
